This post is shamefully overdue, but I’m not going to make excuses of why I haven’t blogged in a while because I only have one: I haven’t felt like it.  That is the truth. My health has been the main reason I have not felt like it. So, instead of using this blog to “complain” about how I feel or the lack of feeling, I just stopped blogging. I was so tired and hormonal that the last thing on my mind was keeping up with the blog.  Which isn’t really fair because that is how many of you find out about the on goings of the kids. (Btw, I am doing much better now. I have cut a lot of stuff out of my diet and working out regularly to help manage stress.) Time is also factor, but you can make time for things, right? So, putting that aside I would like to update you on our life… if you are still interested ;)

The summer has gone by way too fast, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit to being overly excited about this upcoming fall. I am turning 30 and my old soul is so excited!! I actually had the thought, ‘Wow! I am going to be 40 is 10 years. That is so cool!’ I know, I know… I’m weird. Any way, back to this summer. I feel like we just survived.

-We had my grandparents, my parents and my sister come by in the late spring, which was a lot of fun.

-It rained most of the summer, so we didn’t get out too much.

-My dad came back through for business and celebrated Marseille’s 4th birthday. Yup! No babies here! I cannot believe that she is four. She woke up on here birthday and said, “I’m four, I am not 3 a-n-y-m-o-r-e!!” Went to the Children’s Museum for her birthday.

-Danny’s parents made a day trip here to have a birthday dinner with us for Marseille.

-I went paddleboarding… If I lived near water, I would want one sooooo badly. I loved it!!

-The kids went to FL with my parents and Danny went to Chicago for business and I had a wonderful stay-cation.

– We too various hiking and picnic trips. Especially trips to the Biltmore.

– Brought the kids to the train fountain downtown and let them play in it.

-My sister came for a quick visit before heading back to FL

– Went to the zoo as much as we could, and fed the ducks and ducklings a couple times too.

-We did the summer reading program again, but the baseball game got rained out… not sure if I am going to do the library one anymore.

-We had a few doctor appointments early on in the summer and everything is looking good.

-We started homeschooling the last week of August. The kids are loving it, and I am loving the structure in our day.

-We just had a family vacation for just the 4 of us. It has been 3 years since we have done that and it was fun! We went to Charleston, and ended the week with a couple days in Charlotte, so the kiddos could hang out with their grandparents. Danny and I went to Carowinds for the day.

And now, we are at the present moment! I’m sure that I am forgetting stuff… but that is what happens when you wait so long to post!! I will try to get some pictures together and post them later a long with some news that needs another post… no we are not pregnant!

xo, nikki :)

Snow Day!

Sorry this post is so delayed. Our cable has been out since Sunday evening… so no internet, tv or phone!

Well, we when we began following the weather on Friday, we didn’t’ think it would happen, but it did! The weather was actually forecasted correctly! Sunday it rained, than sleeted, and for over 6 hours snowed! We kept all the blinds open on Sunday to follow what was happening. As the sleet turned to large snowflakes and the snow began to collect the giddier we got. I made dinner to the merry sound of Bing Crosby and Frank Sinatra Christmas songs! As the night came to an end, we anticipated waking up to a wintry world of white.

Around 10PM our power went out. Thankfully, all of us were warm in bed (I’m glad I had my book light). Well, about 11PM the low battery chirp of the fire alarms began. Poor Danny, who had just caught a cold earlier in the day, was knocked out from taking medicine had to take the batteries out of the alarms. By 12AM the power was back on! Thank you Duke Energy!!

When we woke up Monday morning, we were not disappointed. There was a ton of snow! Around 6” of snow covering our home! It was beautiful. Everyone ate their breakfast and got bundled up to enjoy our snow! Bentley was not really thrilled with the snow. It could be because he couldn’t move in his snow suit! Well, we let him experience it and brought him back inside. Danny and I built a snowman, made snow angels, and had a little snow ball fight. After Bentley’s nap we went to the store to pick up some lunch and dinner for the next two nights. We couldn’t believe how many cars got stuck in the snow or in accidents! Thankfully, our car has 4 wheel drive and we had no problem at all getting around.

Here are some pictures of our exciting day!

The snow just beginning to stick.

So what’s new?

There isn’t too much going on around here lately. Bentley and I have been at home since Wednesday battling colds. We have a very busy month ahead of us so we need to make sure that we are completely over it! November was a busy month for us last year too. We had Danny’s parents in, then we went to Cherokee, and the next day my family arrived for Thanksgiving. Well, it’s happening again this year. Danny’s parents are coming in for a long weekend, then we are going to Tennessee for a week for Danny’s work, then my family is coming in for Thanksgiving! The month is going to fly by.

Other exciting news Bentley has got his first chompers. Almost two weeks ago now, his first tooth popped through, now he has a second one popping through. It looks funny. I tried to get a good picture but it was hard! Here is the best I got. He’s dirty because he just finished eating.

We are enjoying beautiful weather here. Yesterday, we sat out on the back porch doing a puzzle and Bentley playing in his super yard. We almost ate dinner out there but as the sun was setting the temperature was dropping fast. Today is blue sky and 60 degrees. It’s going to be so cold during the 5k, it’s at 9AM. At 9AM this morning in was 42 degrees out!!!

Here’s Bentley in his play yard:

Well, I hope that everyone is having a wonderful day!

Oh, in cooking news I baked my first rolls and bread with rice, potato, tapioca flours. They were a little different in texture but didn’t taste too bad. Danny didn’t mind the texture. They were really dense. So, I’m going to have to try again soon!
