GI and other stuff

We had our GI appointment on November 7th and it was the first time that this Dr. was pleased with their height and weight. Whew. So we are on now back to yearly appointments, which has never really been able to pan out but that’s okay. We’ll take it!

October was a busy month for us. Every weekend was filled with something! We had my birthday party, a church picnic, Danny’s parents came for a quick visit, apple picking, and a trip to the Biltmore. Marseille also got stitches on her cheek after falling into her bunk bed railing.

November has been equally busy but with mostly sickness though. We are in the middle of a tough virus right now. Besides that, we are all decorated for Christmas because we are going to be away for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Danny was really brave and even put lights on the outside of the house. I have been a busy bee knitting and crocheting  Christmas presents  :) We are ready to enjoy the holidays!

Summer?!

This post is shamefully overdue, but I’m not going to make excuses of why I haven’t blogged in a while because I only have one: I haven’t felt like it.  That is the truth. My health has been the main reason I have not felt like it. So, instead of using this blog to “complain” about how I feel or the lack of feeling, I just stopped blogging. I was so tired and hormonal that the last thing on my mind was keeping up with the blog.  Which isn’t really fair because that is how many of you find out about the on goings of the kids. (Btw, I am doing much better now. I have cut a lot of stuff out of my diet and working out regularly to help manage stress.) Time is also factor, but you can make time for things, right? So, putting that aside I would like to update you on our life… if you are still interested ;)

The summer has gone by way too fast, but I would be lying if I didn’t admit to being overly excited about this upcoming fall. I am turning 30 and my old soul is so excited!! I actually had the thought, ‘Wow! I am going to be 40 is 10 years. That is so cool!’ I know, I know… I’m weird. Any way, back to this summer. I feel like we just survived.

-We had my grandparents, my parents and my sister come by in the late spring, which was a lot of fun.

-It rained most of the summer, so we didn’t get out too much.

-My dad came back through for business and celebrated Marseille’s 4th birthday. Yup! No babies here! I cannot believe that she is four. She woke up on here birthday and said, “I’m four, I am not 3 a-n-y-m-o-r-e!!” Went to the Children’s Museum for her birthday.

-Danny’s parents made a day trip here to have a birthday dinner with us for Marseille.

-I went paddleboarding… If I lived near water, I would want one sooooo badly. I loved it!!

-The kids went to FL with my parents and Danny went to Chicago for business and I had a wonderful stay-cation.

– We too various hiking and picnic trips. Especially trips to the Biltmore.

– Brought the kids to the train fountain downtown and let them play in it.

-My sister came for a quick visit before heading back to FL

– Went to the zoo as much as we could, and fed the ducks and ducklings a couple times too.

-We did the summer reading program again, but the baseball game got rained out… not sure if I am going to do the library one anymore.

-We had a few doctor appointments early on in the summer and everything is looking good.

-We started homeschooling the last week of August. The kids are loving it, and I am loving the structure in our day.

-We just had a family vacation for just the 4 of us. It has been 3 years since we have done that and it was fun! We went to Charleston, and ended the week with a couple days in Charlotte, so the kiddos could hang out with their grandparents. Danny and I went to Carowinds for the day.

And now, we are at the present moment! I’m sure that I am forgetting stuff… but that is what happens when you wait so long to post!! I will try to get some pictures together and post them later a long with some news that needs another post… no we are not pregnant!

Nephrology Update

Last Wednesday, the kids had their Nephrology appointment. It went well, nothing to report. The Dr. thought that the kids were looking good and ordered blood work. I had waited to do the Endocrinology blood work because I knew that the Nephrologist was going to order some too. I made the appointment for the blood work and prayed we would make it on time. We almost didn’t because there was an intern with the Dr. and it always takes twice as long. We are a special case and the Dr. likes all the interns to learn about us. Anyway, we made the blood work appointment without a minute to spare. The kids did really well even though I put the “numbing cream” on a couple minutes before we walked through the door! Bentley didn’t cry at all! We haven’t gotten the results back yet, but I will update the blog when I do! We went to Chick-fil-a to celebrate getting through the blood work! We were going to go to the zoo too but I had a couple errands to run. On Friday we went to the zoo and it was a beautiful day!!

I don’t know if many of you experience going to the doctor’s very much, but a very surreal thing happened at the past three appointments. Pretty much all the staff remember us and called us by our names as we walked through the door. I knew this day was bound to happen since we see most of these people every three months. But I guess the surreal part was that they were excited to see us and noticed how the kids had changed. One of the nurses that has been with us from the beginning, rejoiced with me because Marseille gave a urine sample, which Marseille hasn’t been able to do for the past two years! It’s interesting to see how these people become friends because they are helping us through our journey. Just some random thoughts :)

Here are some pictures from the zoo. We only saw about a quarter of the zoo because the kids had to go to the bathroom and I promised them they could play on the playground!

Endocrinology Update

Last week, we had our first appointment of the year! The kids have been very stable so I went with no expectations. They each gained a pound since their last visit, which was late October. They will be getting blood work done next week to check their thyroids, plus whatever labs the Nephrologist orders. Both kids have fallen off the growth chart again.  Since there has been no real progression in renal failure aiding the ability to do growth hormones, the Dr. thinks maybe it’s time to increase the dosage of their thyroid meds. The blood work will tell us if that is a viable option. The Dr.’s concern isn’t just that they are small but in time if they are not growing their brains can also not develop, and we obviously don’t want that. There is no apparent lack of brain development, as the Dr. kindly pointed out as the kids were chatting away, but it can happen over time. Otherwise, it was a good appointment. We don’t need to be seen again until the summer.

Next week, we have a Nephrology appointment, so we will see how that goes. I’m not really expecting too much since we haven’t had any new blood work done. Marseille should be up for an ultrasound. I am hoping that since Bentley just had one late last year, they won’t need another one, but that may be wishful thinking!

Enjoying their school lunches for date night :)

GA, NC, Family Visits and a Wedding…

all within a two weeks!

A couple weeks ago, Danny took a week off of work. We decided to head to Woodstock, GA for a couple days.  The trip began on Saturday. We had a great time catching up with Danny’s brother and sister-in-law and their sweet little girls. There were birthdays, lots of talking, laughter, catching up and date nights :) The kids had so much fun playing with their cousins and exploring all their cool stuff. Bentley loved the tire swing and tree house. He told me that when we got home Daddy was going to build him a tree house! Marseille loved all the girly toys!

We came back home on Wednesday and got ready for a garage sale. It proved quite challenging with the kids so we met Danny’s parents half way to Charlotte on Thursday and the kids stayed with them until Sunday.  Our garage sale went well, we sold some big ticket items. It’s nice to pare down! After the garage sale, we brought everything that didn’t sell to Goodwill… let’s just say they got a lot of good stuff! To conclude the day, we went looking for shoes for me that fit the carbon graphite insert that I have to wear. It was hard, but we had such a good time together. It was the most relaxing and fun time we’ve had in a long time!

On Sunday, we headed to Charlotte to pick up the kids and hang out with Danny’s parents. The kids loved their time with Grandpa and Grandma. On Memorial Day, we headed back home after a trip to IKEA :) Danny went back to work on Tuesday.

Thursday, my parents came into town for a wedding. Danny was playing the piano in the wedding. He did such a great job. The wedding was successful, the sweet couple is married! :) On Saturday, we went to the zoo with the kids and my parents. We hit happy hour sushi for lunch! The kids loved hanging out with Pop-Pop and Grandma. We even got to Facetime with my Grandma (the kid’s great grandma).

It was a fun couple of weeks catching up with family, traveling and having Danny all to ourselves!! Dreaming of our next vacation!

Wow, friends, it’s been too long!

Hi there, stranger(s)!

Here is a little update. it’s been far too long with way too much excitement. As you know, we did have our first craft fair. The day began very windy and ended sunny with a ton of wind! But what you might not know was… that we made a “emergency” trip to the doctor and the ER. In one day!!!
Wednesday, April 6th both Bentley and Marseille had accidents. Marseille bit through the skin under her lip and Bentley hit his head on the coffee table. Marseille’s skin was glued back together and Bentley ended up with three stitches in his forehead. What a day!
It started off like every other Wednesday, which is cleaning day. Just as I was preparing lunch, I heard a scream and walked into the room to see Marseille’s mouth covered it blood and all swollen. Poor girl. I cleaned her up and she kept sucking on the swollen part in her mouth which kept making it bleed in the front. After a couple of phone calls, I took her to the doctor. He glued it and said that it would scar. It’s tiny so eventually you won’t be able to see it.
So, we get back home and finish cleaning. I got a phone call that the host home for cg has a sick child. As easily as my kids get sick, I opted not to go, but said that I could host it here since the house was clean. I found a dessert mix in my pantry and put it together. By the time the dessert was done and we were done with dinner, the ladies began to arrive. As, I was still cleaning up Bentley was talking to some of the ladies and he bent down to get a toy and slipped (I’m going by his story) and hit the coffee table leg. He must have hit it just right, the force of the hit popped his forehead open. Upon scooping him up, I knew we were going to have to get stitches. He was so brave and did so well. The Dr. was amazed that they didn’t have to have a nurse hold him down as she put the stitches in. They gave him a race car that he is mighty proud of.
Thursday was Danny’s birthday. I made him Shrimp and Chroizo. Then for dessert, we had rice crispy treats and ice cream. Bentley thought that was a lot of fun! One more year for Danny and he will be 30! After all the excitement of the day before it was very laid back.
On Friday, Bentley had a three year old check up and everything is looking good for him :)
Saturday, was a crazy. My friend’s George and Danielle got married :) Early that morning, I got a call saying that the bride’s dress was too big. She ended up bringing it over and I fixed it. I was a mess until she got here, trying to figure out ideas on how to fix it without having to sew it. I ended up having to sew it! After they left, I followed them because I was helping with the bridesmaids dresses. Whew! It was a lot of work, but it was worth it because the couple is happily married :)
Sunday, we had mini-cg and that was relaxing!
Monday, I prepared for the craft fair.
Tuesday, the kids had their ultrasounds. They did extremely well for having to fast. We won’t have results until the beginning of May.
Wednesday, Bentley ended up throwing up in the car after our first errand, which lead to another unusual Wednesday. Right before Danny left for cg the kids got into Vaseline. I couldn’t help but laugh! Thankfully we got everything cleaned up, I just couldn’t believe all the strange things that kept happening! Wednesday is the day that I want to get things done and God keeps showing me that there is more at stake than my to-do list.
Thursday, Bentley ended up sick so we took it easy.
Friday, I ran errands like a mad woman trying to get everything ready. Thankfully, my mother in law was here to help me with the kids and getting last minute details done! She ended up taking them to her house so they could get rest while we had our busy Saturday! Thanks Mom!!
Saturday, we didn’t have a great turn out to our craft fair, but I did sell some stuff and got some orders. I was pleased. This is the first time I’ve ever done something like this so it was good for me :) I have plenty of alterations to keep me busy, plus these orders on top of that!
While I was at the craft fair, Danny had band practice. I love having the band over at our house. I love hearing them practice and prepare to serve our church :)
After that, we got to go on a date night. It’s been a long, long time!! We went to Trio a great dinner and Luna Rosa for gelato! Along with the great food, we had great conversation. It was a very refreshing time!
Sunday, we had an amazing, I mean AMAZING message, given to us. More on that later… that’s just how important it was to me. Then we headed to pick up the kiddos from their grandparents house!
It’s been a fun, crazy, busy month, but isn’t that life?! I cannot believe that this month is more that half over!
