Secret Sisters

I am so excited about the Secret Sisters Ministry at our church. My prayer life has already drastically changed! I cannot wait to reveal my sister next year :) It has been so fun being apart of the team that put this together and I’m looking forward to being apart for as long as I can!! If you don’t know what Secret Sisters is, basically you get paired with another lady from the church and you pray for and encourage them secretly for a year. Each month you write an encouraging letter, but you can give gifts as well. I was excited to hear that my grandma does this at her church too! It has been fun to see the table on Sunday mornings filled with letters and gifts! The kids have enjoyed being involved with the idea of Secret Sisters :)

Travelling at the speed of life

I have no idea what we have been doing for the past month! As Bentley has been trying to figure out how to make the minutes, hours and days go by faster, I am trying to find a way to slow it down! We’ve been doing a little of this and that, gardening, swimming in the neighbor’s pool, physical therapy, hanging out with friends, tons of trips to the library, and pink eye!

Since a picture says a thousand words, here are a few to fill in the gaps!

Making homemade pretzels — Bentley loves to take pictures

Trip to the mountains

The kids brought me flowers

Flowers from our garden.

Blueberry picking!! 1 gallon for $5!

Playing dress up! Marseille said,  “I’m getting married!” She loves to say that when she wears that dress :)

This head of cabbage was much bigger than my head. It made great cabbage rolls!

I rigged this noodle sprinkler for the kids. They loved it!

Shot time!!

Lazy 5 Ranch was quite an experience! We met Danny’s parents and the cousins for a carriage ride through a ranch full of animals. You were allowed to feed most of them.

Learning how to do the dishes

I found this praying mantis on the grill, I caught it but had to let it go because I couldn’t find any food small enough for it.

Pool time :)

I was so excited to find that my rosemary sprigs, that my friend gave me, had roots.

Our huge sunflowers! There are at least 10 of them in our garden and at least 9ft tall. I love to see all the busy bees on them.

I was so excited to find these eggs. Papa and Mama Blue abandoned their nest so the eggs never hatched.

Bentley found the nest. I dried it out and saved it. It is an American Goldfinch nest.

We started school on July 2nd. We did an American Revolution and Fourth of July unit. Bentley is making his cucumber sandwich to enjoy with his “taxed tea”.

Our Boston Tea Party. I even polished the silver!

We made a cake for the 4th of July.

It went right along with our 4th of July unit!

Prizes from the summer library reading program. We read 80 books in a month and they received a medal, a pencil, a sticky hand, bounce house tickets and baseball tickets. At the baseball game they get to be in a parade and get a free shirt! They were very excited!

They are nice medals!!

July 9th, was the first day of our Olympic unit. A is for archery. Water balloon archery :)

Aunt Becca helping Bentley learn how to use a bow and arrow! Bentley loves archery.

B is for Basketball

Playing Basketball

I cut open one of the sunflowers to let the kids look and touch it. They really enjoyed that. We observed the insects, and eggs that were on it. We made guesses at what ate the leaves. I showed them where the seeds developed and Bentley wanted to eat them. :)

Hope you enjoyed the update!

An over due update : )

Well, the weekend of Mother’s Day, my mom and sister came up. My sister had an extended vacation stay with us. We did get quite a few things done! My dad and mom arrived last Friday and stayed over the weekend. All of them left this morning, sadly leaving Bentley behind!

While my sister was here Danny had to go to Chicago, so we got to have a few days of girly fun. We watched movies (Little Dorrit, Bride Wars, Northanger Abbey, and Jane Eyre), painted Madeline themed stuff in the nursery, had a spa day, sewed dresses, went shopping, drank frappuccinos, and ate food that Danny doesn’t like! We had a great time together!

Here are some pictures of the past couple of weeks:

Bentley is now standing on his own and dancing while he stands. He is taking a couple of steps. I imagine he will figure out how to walk completely very soon! Which is very exciting.

Marseille and I had a great check up this month. We had a ultrasound to check her kidneys. Everything looked great and she weighs about 2lbs 8oz. She is still very wiggly, I don’t remember Bentley moving this much! I also had my glucose test and it was very good. So no signs of gestational diabetes! I can’t believe that my due date is in 75 days! Time is flying by! Thankfully, we don’t have much to get ready!

Our garden is doing okay. It doesn’t seem to be growing as fast as last year, but we have been getting a lot of rain and only a few days of sun. Hopefully, the rain won’t kill our little garden!

Now, I have to get going, I’ve got quite a bit of sewing to do and I still need to take a nap!

I know it’s been a while!

Well, what have we been up too! Gardening… cooking… and life!

In the garden…
Last weekend we planted our garden. All but the squash has now sprouted!! Plus all of our transplants are continuing to thrive!
Our garden contains:
Green Beans
Cucumbers
Tomatoes
Strawberries – which the birds have eaten all of them!
Green Peppers
Basil
Parsley
Okra
Spinach Lettuce – Bibb and iceberg
Eggplant
Brussels Sprouts
Broccoli
Zucchini
Yellow Squash
Watermelon
We are hoping for a great crop!! This year we are having two problems: Too much moisture and birds. We are hoping to build something to go over top of the garden to keep out the birds. But I’m not sure what we are going to do about the moisture problem. We have mushrooms galore– but I just went and check on the garden and they are all gone!

In the kitchen… I made a large batch of pizza dough and froze some of it. We have eaten all of the spaghetti sauce I canned last year, so I canned another jar and froze some. (I couldn’t believe I actually canned it by myself! Whew! I was a little nervous!)

This past Friday, I had a huge craving for chocolate cake, but didn’t end up making one because I didn’t think it would get eaten. But, we had some friends stop by Saturday afternoon and I made my first dark chocolate cake and dark chocolate icing from scratch! It actually turned out. I’m not a very good baker… I’m a little too scatter-brained! I did forget to turn on the timer, and to take a picture! :)

Our life: We did end up entering the Romanticize Your Bedroom Contest. Our room turned out pretty good, even though I waited until the last minute to finish. The deadline was midnight, last Thursday and I started the canopy for our bed at 8:30pm on Thursday! We got it done and we love it! Thankfully, I had tulle leftover from a wedding dress, so I didn’t have to buy any. I spent about $25 in total!

Bentley has been a trip lately. He is very silly. Whistling is his new thing. He loves to be loud. For the past week he has been getting into everything. Thankfully he knows what, “clean up, put that back, close the door and please don’t touch,” mean and is usually very responsive when we say them!
Here is a little clip of him whisting. It’s not very good, but it was the best one that I could get.

I have been sewing more lately. Recently, I have started a blog for my sewing. This is to post what I am working on, my prices for alterations, and hopefully soon a line of girls clothing that I am going to start!

For now that has been our life! Hopefully, it won’t take so long for me to update again!

What we’ve been up to.

This month seems to be flying by! Here are some things that we’ve been filling our time with:
-We recently extended our garden – it’s now 8’x8′! We are waiting until May to plant.

-Started seedlings indoors – a little late I know, but I am glad to announce that all of them have sprouted :)

-Celebrated Danny’s 27th birthday – yay!
This is the painting that I did for him — I am pretty rusty!

-I had a good pregnancy check-up – Marseille is quite an active wiggly baby!
-Had a great Easter weekend!
-We are re-decorating our bedroom – basically moving furniture around and making it more romantic!
-Bentley had a wonderful opthamology appointment – he is now in the realm of normal vision and his nerves and veins are pristine (the Dr’s word!). Now we are on yearly appointments!

This is Bentley playing outside while we worked on the garden!

We have had a relaxing busy month! What a change from last month!
